Orissa beat Tripura; Bengal trounce Assam

A polished knock of 73 by opener Nataraj Behera and a four-wicket haul by left-arm seamer Preetamjeet Das helped Orissa beat Tripura by three wickets in a league match of the East Zone Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Sunshine ground here today. Bengal thrashed Assam by eight wickets in another match of the day at Ravenshaw University ground. The winners collected four points each while the losers drew blank.

Behera`s 69-ball knock was studded with six boundaries and one six. Deepak Behera hit the last ball of the innings for a six to enable Orissa clinch victory in style. In the next two matches on Thursday, Orissa would meet Assam at Sunshine ground and defending champions Jharkhand would face Tripura at Ravenshaw ground.

At Ravenshaw ground: Assam 99/8 in 20 overs (DS Sharma 40; Shami Ahmed 4/24) lost to Bengal 100/2 in 16.5 overs (AS Das 41, SP Goswami 25; Gokul Das2/27) by 8 wkts.
